PHINMA Education’s Laguna Network, which includes the Rizal College of Laguna (PHINMA RCL) and the Union College of Laguna (PHINMA UCL), has partnered with the local microfinance institution Center for Agriculture and Rural Development Mutually Reinforcing Institutions (CARD MRI) to provide accessible, quality education to underserved students in Laguna and neighboring provinces through its Flex and RAD learning programs. The agreement was formalized through a virtual event on June 23rd.
“PHINMA Education has always been guided by the mission to improve life through education. We believe that the underserved youth of the Philippines have the potential to build a better nation if they are endowed with the skills and values to do so, ”said Ramon R. del Rosario Jr., President and CEO of PHINMA. “The partnership we are formalizing focuses on the underserved students in Laguna and its neighboring provinces.”
According to Dr. Jaime Aristotle B. Alip, the founder and chairman of CARD MRI, the partnership will enable PHINMA RCL and UCL students to benefit from CARD MRI’s loan programs, internships and employment opportunities. “We are also looking forward to CARD MRI members and their children as well as employees studying at PHINMA Education schools and being able to take advantage of the HK50 scholarship. With our extensive experience in the field of microfinance, we will, among other things, give our contributions to the BS BA Major in Banking and Microfinance curriculum, ”he said.
PHINMA Education has shaped scholarship holders in nine schools across the country to achieve high admission exam rates and even higher employment rates. Students credit the program for helping them with learning challenges amid a global pandemic. “When I found out the class wasn’t face to face, I said stop first because I really can’t keep up. But when PHINMA RCL offered me RAD Learning, I was encouraged. I said I can continue with my studies [“When I learned classes wouldn’t be face to face, I thought I would need to stop because I would not be able to keep up. But when PHINMA RCL offered RAD Learning, it gave me hope]”Shared Clarence Balonzo, a BS Education Major in Filipino.
PHINMA Education is aimed at first-generation college students who would otherwise not be able to afford private training. Philippine Country Head Dr. Raymundo P. Reyes stated, “Our learning strategies, especially during the pandemic, take into account their resources at home. Because of the weak or no internet connection, we opted for printed modules with remote coaching via mobile data and devices. ”In SY 20-21, the students from PHINMA RCL came from Laguna, Quezon, Batangas and other neighboring areas.
“I want to finish my studies and I am very grateful because our teachers are very understanding. As a mother, I also teach my own children and I stopped studying for a long time, so I had no idea if I could go to college [during the pandemic]“Said Czarina Marie Obe, a BS Secondary Education Major student in English. “With the help of my teachers, classmates and by reading the modules, I was able to complete all activities.” Czarina’s classmates also noticed that studying at PHINMA RCL developed their sense of responsibility and independence, while at the same time encouraging them to make friends.
PHINMA Education has an average first-time pass rate of 80 percent on the entrance exam, with approximately 82 percent of students being hired within a year of graduation. Since its inception in 2004, the Laguna Network has had 104 top examiners. The Laguna Network will offer several high employability programs such as criminology, accounting, business administration, and education, and will award a number of Hawak Kamay (HK) scholarships to qualified students.
“This partnership with CARD MRI significantly expands the potential to improve life. We love having you with us as we put the underserved students first and ensure that our shared mission for this new partnership makes a positive difference in life. Let’s learn together, grow together and improve life together, ”concluded del Rosario Jr.
