According to a report by the US Embassy in the Philippines, 80 Filipino students who have been admitted to US universities have signed up for EducationUSA’s (EdUSA) second Virtual Orientation Aid (PDO) for at least 57 million pesos.
EdUSA Philippines is a US State Department advisory network that provides free, comprehensive, and up-to-date information on US higher education to Filipinos interested in studying in the US at any point in their academic career.
It offers its services to prospective international students in more than 170 countries, and provides students with resources and tools to help them navigate the five steps to studying in the US: researching schools, identifying financial support opportunities, filling out applications, getting a student visa, and getting started prepare the departure.
According to the U.S. Embassy, there are more than 4,700 accredited higher education institutions in the U.S. and an EdUSA advisor can help students narrow down their options, define their priorities, and plan their college careers.
However, EdUSA does not offer scholarships, but can help students find scholarships and financial support.
The U.S. Embassy noted that a real-time survey conducted during the virtual PDO found that more than half of the participants from their respective schools offered financial assistance totaling more than $ 1.2 million, or the equivalent of $ 57 million. Dollars and more than 15 students also received financial aid that can be renewed each year.
These outgoing Filipino students include those attending undergraduate and graduate courses at a variety of higher education institutions across the United States, the U.S. embassy said.
During the virtual PDO on June 10th, John Law, ChargĂ© d’Affaires of the US Embassy for the Philippines, welcomed the students and applauded them for their successful admission to US universities.
“I want to thank you in advance for your contribution to the enrichment of US campuses and classrooms,” said Law, adding that the orientation answered timely questions about international study and travel in a pandemic as most US universities are personal Return courses.
Answering questions related to student visas was the consular section of the embassy.
EdUSA alumni Macy Lee (University of California Davis), Axelle Miel (Duke University), Attorney Jill De Dumo-Cornista (Georgetown University Law), and Attorney Nory Dianne Miano (Georgetown University Law) also joined the PDO for their time at US universities and advised the outbound students.
Ambassador Marillete Suarez, parents of EdUSA, whose son is currently studying at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania, was also on the PDO to share her insights and experiences in support of her son’s US study experience.
The embassy said PDO attendees also learned about classroom culture, campus life, travel planning best practices, distance learning, and ways to make the most of their time outside the classroom in the United States.
All students who were admitted to US universities but were unable to participate in the PDO were advised to contact the EdUSA advisors at if they had any questions or concerns [email protected]
Filipinos who want to study at a US university are invited to attend the EdUSA mini fair with various universities and colleges on June 25 at https://bit.ly/EdUSA-Mini-Fair-2021.

Meanwhile, the U.S. Embassy in the Philippines is celebrating the 75th anniversary of U.S.-Philippines diplomatic relations, and improving access to international education in the U.S. is one of its top priorities.
