Indonesia teams up with Kaspersky to boost cyber security capabilities

The Indonesian government has partnered with cybersecurity solutions provider Kaspersky to strengthen the country’s cybersecurity capabilities and counter growing threats.

Russia-based cybersecurity provider and Badan Siber dan Sandi Negara (BSSN), the Indonesian government’s cyber and crypto agency, recently signed a MoU to encourage cybersecurity capacity development and institution building in the country’s government sector improve.

By and large, the MoU signed by Kaspersky and BSSN includes collaboration through knowledge sharing, capacity building, cybersecurity training and joint cyber awareness programs in Indonesia.

“BSSN and Kaspersky are aware of the risks posed by cyber threats and are working to improve the overall computer security of the country through a commitment to security, privacy, reliability, incident response and integrity by taking the first step by signing this MoU undertake, “said Lieutenant General Hinsa Siburian, head of the BSSN.

“It is hoped that Kaspersky and BSSN will be able to commit to even closer cooperation, particularly in strengthening cybersecurity in critical infrastructures and building capacity through training, advice, information security assessment, and incident recovery and response,” he added added.

The move comes amid an era of growing cybercrime risk in Indonesia. Kaspersky claims that its solutions alone stopped over 9.6 million Internet malware attacks that nearly infected users in Indonesia.

According to Kaspersky, preventive and repressive measures have been taken to prevent and mitigate the risk of cybercrime as Indonesia accelerates its general digitalization, but these risks are evolving and also need to be addressed through cybersecurity awareness raising.

“Indonesia is making leaps and bounds in the digital world and the pandemic has only accelerated this change,” said Kaspersky CEO Eugene Kaspersky. “But digitization also means increasing cyber crime, as cyber criminals are also becoming more and more experienced and experienced.

In February, the provider claimed that India, Indonesia and Malaysia were among the top 10 countries in the world to be hit by the most malware attacks by the SilentFade group in January.
