SPM results are out there. About half a million students who took the SPM exam in early 2021 would have received their results by now. If you haven’t received yours, you should contact your school.
If you did well, congratulations. If you haven’t done well, you can always repeat yourself. SPM is a very important exam and wherever you go you will be asking for your SPM certificate. So if you are ambitious and you think getting a degree is important, I suggest that you repeat yourself.
Those of you wondering what to do next should start planning your future. Many of you would have received letters of admission from various colleges and universities asking you to enroll.
Some letters of offer ask you to take part in interviews. Some would ask you to snap up and submit it. If you are new to this game it is easy to get carried away with these offer letters.

Example 1: Jane
Jane received a letter of offer from a local institution. It states that the institution is offering her a full scholarship to complete a foundation program. They also offer accommodation and monthly grants for studying at the college. Jane will even get a phone call from college asking her to submit her application form within seven days. Jane doesn’t know what to do. Is it a real offer letter? Is there such a university? Are you kind enough to offer her a Foundation program scholarship? Is she so lucky?
Example 2: Linda
Linda receives a phone call asking for an interview. The caller says she was shortlisted for university admission. She has to forward her SPM score sheet, IC and school report card. If selected, she can stand up for upcoming admission to the university. Linda is so happy. A university she never applied for calls her for an interview. Nobody can be as lucky as Linda. How did the university get its name, home address and telephone number? How did you know she was sitting for the SPM? It’s amazing isn’t it?
Example 3: Ahmad
Ahmad receives a letter of offer from an institution in Singapore. There it is said that he was selected for a “Work & Study” program in Singapore. It’s a graduate program in hospitality. Ahmad has to work three days and study for three days. He receives board and lodging.
He is also provided with travel expenses to Singapore. He also receives pocket money of Sing 1000 / = per month. To qualify, he has to attend a three-day workshop in town. You will provide him with all the information and prepare him to go to Singapore. Ahmad was supposed to be the happiest person in town. He not only gets a job, but also an apprenticeship. This is a “God sent gift” for Ahmad, isn’t it?
There are hundreds of students like Jane, Linda and Ahmad who receive letters of offer from institutions, colleges and universities on a daily basis.
These students are only 17 years old and fresh out of school. Their knowledge of the world around them is very limited. You can’t read between the lines either. They do not know what is true and what is wrong.

You can easily get carried away with all of these gimmicks and marketing tactics. If you fall for these scams, your whole life will be wasted.
Many colleges and universities are badly affected during this lockdown. Some are even closed. Imagine running a college with no students! Where do you get students? How can you attract students? How will they survive? All of these private universities do not get any money from the government. They have to find their own means. They have to compete with 500+ institutions across the country if they are to survive. Many have to come up with marketing plans to “hook” students. With the SPM results in hand, this is the best time to start looking for students. The best bait you can offer prospective students is “Free Scholarship, Free Tuition, Free Transportation, Free Accommodation, Free Pocket Money,” and the like.
How come these universities
the data of the students?
It’s a miracle how colleges and universities are getting hold of SPM student data. You can be given exact names, addresses, contact numbers, and more to help you reach out to potential students. It really is a miracle.
Colleges can use the data to harass students for the next year. Can you imagine that if the data of students from 100 colleges were saved, they would receive “call after call” from 100 colleges every day. If the cell phones belong to the parents, I feel sorry for the parents.

ADVERTISING
Don’t fall for cheap marketing tricks. If you receive a letter of offer or a call from a college, please contact the Malaysian Qualification Authority (MQA). Go online and see if there is such a college. You can even contact MQA and find out more about the college. Be vigilant and “BE SMART”.
On the other hand, you can also send the offer letter to [email protected] for verification. This not only helps you, but also other students who are in a similar situation.
