Aaron’s practice is exclusively dedicated to supporting higher education institutions in dealing with complex legal and regulatory matters. He has extensive experience in the range of federal, state, and accreditation agency laws and standards that govern post-secondary institutions and is a frequent writer and speaker on higher education policy and federal grant programs.

In 2018, Aaron served the US Department of Education as one of 17 negotiators tasked with overhauling the department’s complex and controversial “borrower defenses”. The department selected Aaron to represent and negotiate on behalf of general counsels, attorneys, and compliance officers at post-secondary institutions nationwide.

Aaron regularly represents institutions in administrative proceedings before state licensing agencies, accreditation agencies, and the Department of Education, including matters arising from audits, program reviews, and investigations by the Office of Inspector General.

To support institutional initiatives, he assists clients in drafting and negotiating a large number of contracts, including national and international articulation, consortium, license, marketing and agency agreements as well as stock and asset purchase agreements in post-secondary mergers and acquisitions. Aaron also helps manage regulatory and government relationships, policy creation and implementation, strategic planning, and compliance system design.

Aaron is a member of the National Association of College and University Attorneys and the American Bar Association.

Katie is responsible for a variety of regulatory and transactional duties for the nonprofit and for-profit higher education sector, including online education programs, and has an extensive knowledge of the laws and regulations that affect colleges and universities.

She communicates regularly with the Department of Education on behalf of clients to assist with Title IV questions and to maintain the department’s institutional authority. Katie also helps schools maintain successful student exchange visitor programs.

Jack is an accomplished, strategic business partner and pragmatic, energetic leader with extensive expertise in financial services. As a member of Capstone’s Financial Advisory Services Practice, Jack has been very successful in initiating and negotiating complex transactions, including debt restructuring and acquisitions. He has extensive experience in mergers and acquisitions, including due diligence, valuation, terms and transaction structure. Jack is proficient at analyzing complex transaction structures and identifying significant credit and risk problems, with an emphasis on distressed businesses.

Prior to joining Capstone Partners, Jack ran a solo consultancy practice for over five years where he established himself as a collaborative leader with excellent financial understanding enabling him to adopt complex financial and accounting principles and apply them to all levels of the company . He combines superior analytical skills and a creative mind with diverse industry experience and intuition to deliver valuable insights and actionable ideas. Prior to founding his law firm, Jack founded and led a consulting practice for a national law firm for 14 years and served as Director of M&A for one of the world’s leading financial institutions for 7 years. Prior to this position, Jack was an executive at the same institution responsible for all aspects of the loan settlement process, including aggressive programs to monitor and reduce problem loans.

Jacob brings over 15 years of experience to the investment banking team at Capstone Partners. As a founding member of the company, he helped build the Capstone brand over the past ten years until it merged with Headwaters MB in late 2017. Today, Jacob is Head of M&A for Capstone Partners, responsible for overseeing the Northeast region. Proven to be a talented deal maker with an unrelenting commitment to his clients, Jacob has established himself and our company as leaders in various industries including education and training, consumer goods and business services. He is a highly qualified leader and serves as a strong mentor and role model for our developing professionals.

Jacob previously worked at Andersen Corporate Finance LLC, where he focused on the software and direct marketing industries. He started his career in New York City at Rabobank International, a multinational Dutch investment bank in Utrecht, the Netherlands. While at Rabobank International, Jacob worked in the mergers and acquisitions group with a focus on cross-border transactions in South and Latin America in the consumer goods, food and beverage industries.

Jacob also founded Sophie’s Fund, which provides college scholarships and financial assistance to homeless youth.
