Rickabaugh Graphics to assist with Marietta College athletic logo rebrand | News, Sports, Jobs

MARIETTA – An Ohio company was selected to develop a modern track and field logo for Marietta College.

The college has partnered with Rickabaugh Graphics to develop a new logo that reflects a modern day pioneer and strengthens the school’s overall athletic identity.

Marietta College President Bill Ruud announced in November that a task force of alumni, students, faculty and staff would be formed to review the current Pioneer logo and mascot.

The task force met several times from January to April and through these discussions the group decided that an outside agency was in the best long-term interest of the college.

“We reached out to the top companies involved in redesigning sports logos and selected one of the most experienced and respected people – Eric Rickabaugh – and his company to help us develop a new logo and sports brand. “ Tom Perry, vice president of communications and brand management, said. “The task force shared many great ideas and everyone is excited to continue to play a critical role in supporting our new partner in this important transition.”

Rickabaugh Graphics is based in Gahanna and has been in the graphic identity business for more than 30 years. With a portfolio spanning several high-profile college and professional logos, including Ohio State University, the task force was confident in selecting Eric Rickabaugh and his company.

“Our student athletes and coaches are excited to be part of the process, and all of us at college are delighted that all of our constituents have the opportunity to provide feedback.” said Larry Hiser, director of intercollegiate athletics. “I know our coaches and student athletes will be active participants, but I also want to encourage our alumni and other members of the Marietta College community to share their thoughts when asked to join a focus group or when they join an online Received survey. Feedback is a crucial part of developing a new athletics logo. “

Rickabaugh and his award-winning team of designers are leaders in college identity design, having created more than 100 university brands and 500 college logos, including most of the institutions that have abandoned Native American nicknames and logos.

Rickabaugh met with some members of the task force and the college leadership team on campus. He will conduct focus groups in July and follow-up surveys will be carried out with all key constituents as data from the focus groups are compiled.

Rickabaugh has proposed an aggressive but reasonable timeline for completing the project. College officials have assured everyone involved that the process should not be rushed.

“It is important that we take the time to ensure that we end up with the best possible logo to represent the Marietta College sports program.” said Perry. “It’s also important that when we unveil the new logo, we make sure we have new clothes for sale in the college bookstore and that we can celebrate it the right way.”
