Palm Beach Post picks all-county team

It may be a little later than usual, but the Palm Beach Post is excited to introduce its all-county wrestling team, the final all-county team for the 2020-21 school year. This team was selected with input from Palm Beach County trainers and Post reporters.

Wrestler of the year

MIKEY TAL SHAHAR, American Heritage-Delray, Jr. 39-2, [195]

Spent four past seasons chasing a state title to eventually win the elusive championship with a 5-2 win over Ryan Cody (Masters Academy) at £ 195 in Class 1A.

Palm Beach County’s sole state winner Tal Shahar was also named Wrestler of the Year.

His career includes a two-time state finalist and a 163-36 record.

Coach of the year

JP REESE, American Heritage

During his tenure, the stallions have grown into one of the top teams in Palm Beach County.

In the 2020/21 season, his team took third place at the state tournament in class 1A, the best result of all teams in the district. Eight wrestlers qualified for the top state tournament, with three state finalists and one state champion.

FIRST TEAM

OMER BARAK, American-Heritage-Delray, Fri., 34-11, [152]

His 25 pins helped him through the county and regional meetings and finished second at 1A State.

BILL CHARLES, Olympic Heights, Sun., 15-3 [170]

Won the district title in his freshman year of college.

DAVID CORRET-JER, Palm Beach Gardens, Jr. 17-3, [120]

State qualification for the third time after winning district and regional titles.

ANDREW DESOLA, American Heritage-Delray, Jr., 33-12 [126]

Solid season, two-time district champion and fourth in the 1A state.

WILLIAM GEORGE, Palm Beach Gardens, Sr., 24-3, [160]

Fifth place at the 3A state meeting. Was three-time national champion, finished his career with 173 wins.

ETHAN HOWARD, Wellington, Sr., 23-3, [132]

Qualified for the state tournament of class 3A.

PATRICK JONES, Wellington, Sun., 21-1 [106]

Won district and regional titles and came third in the state tournament in class 3A.

NICKOLAS NAPASE, Park Vista, Sr. 17-5, [195]

Was a Class 3A State Qualifier for the Cobras.

VINCENZO NAPOLITANA, American Heritage-Delray, Sr., 27-8, [138]

Finished career with 201 wins. Was second in the district and in the Regionals and came third in the 1A state.

JOSEPH NICOLOSI, American Heritage-Delray, Jr., 33-3, [182]

Won district and regional championships and finished second just before the top state title.

EVAN PENA, Wellington, Fri., 10-5, [113]

A class 3A state qualifier for the Wolverines.

MASON POWELL, Wellington, Sr., 21-6 [285]

Recovered from last year’s shoulder injury and advanced to the 3A State tournament where he finished sixth.

RAFAEL ROMERO, American Heritage-Delray, Jr. 29-6, [145]

District won and third in Regional. Fourth place at the 1A state tournament.

CHASE THOMPSON, American Heritage-Delray, Jr., 37-5, [220]

Got 20 pins out of 37 wins. Was district and regional champion, while he took sixth place in the 1A state.

AIDEN ALEXANDER, Jupiter, Sr., 13-3 [220]

Third in the 3A state tournament.
