Central Texas College’s continuing education department is again offering scholarships for a new robotics and programming camp in the College for Kids program. CTC was one of 10 schools awarded the Governor’s Summer Merit Program Grant by the Texas Workforce Commission to award scholarships to historically underserved students ages 14-21 who pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (MINT) are interested. Twenty scholarships are available for students ages 14-16 to be used for the Lego Mindstorms Robotics and Coding Camp, which takes place July 19-23.
During the camp, students learn text-based programming with MicroPython, a version of one of the world’s most popular programming languages. Students design and build programmable robots to solve problems in a STEM context, understand and use input and output devices, and gain first-hand experience of forming and testing hypotheses. Other new College for Kids courses in July include:
Python Programmer (8-14 Years Old): Learn how to program with Python to create beautiful apps and games. Each lesson takes students step by step down a programming path with entertaining content that they create from start to finish. The course takes place from Monday to Thursday, 12.-15. July, from 8.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. The cost is $ 229.
Roblox Coders and Entrepreneurs (Ages 8-14): Explore the Lua language through a visual block coding system as you design worlds in Roblox, an online universe where anything can be created. This new class combines game design concepts and coding. The course takes place from Monday to Thursday, 19.-22. July, from 8.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. The cost is $ 229.
Minecraft Redstone Engineers (8-14 Years Old): Students can expand their Redstone knowledge by building their own Carnival with a variety of Redstone mini-games, roller coasters and attractions. You will also learn how to use Command and Structure Blocks to incorporate into your builds. The course takes place from Monday to Thursday, April 26-29. July,

Achieve through Art (ages 10+): The two main goals of this interactive course are to teach students strategies for managing the weaknesses in their life so that they can stay safe and develop empathy so that they will be able to helping others. Students will achieve these goals by creating art. The course takes place from Monday to Friday, 12.-16. July,
1 p.m. to 2 p.m. The cost is $ 85.
Sweet Dreams (Age 5-12): Students decorate their own dream journal, make scented pillow spray, make their own hot cocoa mix, and more. The course will take place on July 21st from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. The cost is $ 55.
Sew Fun (Age 5-12): This beginner sewing class provides the skills necessary to turn sewing into a creative outlet. Students will hand-sew their own cute projects to take home. The course will take place on July 21st from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. The cost is $ 35.
Pamper Me Kids Spa (Age 5-12): Learn to do the basics for a real spa day. Students make their own shower gel, lip gloss, hand scrub, and more. The course will take place on July 24th from 12pm to 3pm. The cost is $ 49.
Basics of Drawing (Ages 5-12): In this beginner-friendly course, students will learn the essential techniques of drawing realistic, understanding the concepts of line quality, contour lines, and markings as they learn a variety of art techniques to create works of art made by Still lifes are enough for self-portraits. Students should bring a sketch pad to class, which will be held on July 29th, 9am to 12pm. The cost is $ 49.
Cookies Galore (ages 7+): Learn how to make, cut, bake and decorate homemade sugar cookies. The students should bring their creative ideas, nimble fingers and their favorite cookie cutter. The course will take place on July 16 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The cost is $ 59.
Sherlock Holmes 101 (Age 5-12): Teaches students to think like a detective and solve mysteries. They will use invisible ink and secret codes to communicate with their fellow detectives, and each detective will make their own spy gear to take home. The course will take place on July 27th from 8.30 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. The cost is $ 49.
