Online sensation Doodle Boy joins Shropshire College with Adlard Art Scholarship

The online sensation Doodle Boy has received an art scholarship from internationally renowned artist Charlie Adlard at a college in Shropshire.

Shrewsbury’s Joe Whale has taken his place at Ellesmere College and is eager to take advantage of the Artsmark Platinum School, known for offering art to students and the community.

Joe was one of eleven students, including his brother Jesse, who attended mid-term spring – and this week finally had the chance to meet Charlie Adlard to discuss his art and college scholarship at the Adlard Studio speak.

Joe, 11, was called The Doodle Boy for always scribbling in class and became a social media sensation when pictures of his sketchbooks were posted on Instagram.

He now gives online advice and tutorials through his own dedicated social media platforms, has appeared on NBC’s US television show Little Big Shots, and will be releasing his first book this fall.

Charlie Adlard, the illustrator of The Walking Dead comics and former comic book award winner, has also funded the new Adlard Art Studio at the college where Joe will be based. It provides a higher platform to display some of the excellent works of art created by the students there.

He said, “I am very excited to have Joe win the scholarship – he is an amazing talent and is already recognized by many admirers who follow his story online. It’s a great opportunity for him and I wish him all the best at Ellesmere College.

“It is exciting for me to be awarded a scholarship and I will follow Joe’s progress with interest. I’m particularly impressed that he wants to start his journey at half-time in college – it just shows how eager he is to get started! “

Charlie is an avid supporter of Ellesmere College; Most recently, he was the featured artist at the school’s National Art Exhibition with life drawings and original pieces from published works. is working. Applications for a Sixth Form Charlie Adlard Art Scholarship are now being accepted for college admission in September.
