College World Series 2021 preview
This year’s field is covered, because the eight teams that have prevailed in the Super Regionals compete in Omaha. These eight teams have now been divided into two separate double elimination groups of four teams each. The first two will play against each other in a three-game series.
Vanderbilt last won in 2019 when the series was canceled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. So it will be nice to get active again – with fans in the stands on top of that. Vandy is one of the favorites again this year, mainly due to the great pitching.
Jack Leiter was on the light that season with a 2.53 ERA a year, and he had 10 strikeouts in seven innings in the Regionals over East Carolina last weekend to get his team back on track.
“That’s why you’re coming to Vanderbilt for moments like these,” said Leiter, son of former major league pitcher Al Leiter, after beating East Carolina. “The season would have felt incomplete if we hadn’t made it this far.”
Stanford and the underdog NC State will face each other in Game 1, and cardinal outfielder Brock Jones says his squad is ready to open some eyes. “I think we’re going to shock the world,” said Jones. “We are not satisfied. We didn’t come here to go to a super and just to get to Omaha. We’re trying to pull it off. “
