HEERF II Fund Report – July 1, 2021 | Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships

Under the federal government’s Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act (CRRSAA), the university has received additional funding of $ 7,122,267 to support students in need due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the disruption to campus operations. In 2020 this grant was known as the CARES Act grant.

    1. A confirmation that the institution has used, or intends to use, the same amount of HEERF II funds for student emergency financial aid as is being offered to students for HEERF I under Section 18004 (a) (1) of the CARES Act.

      Institutions that received HEERF I grant funds under the CARES Act did not have to apply for an HEERF II grant. The university has automatically received a complementary CRRSAA HEERF II scholarship which has an approval date of 1/17/2021; the university agreed to the terms.

    2. The total amount of funds that the institution receives or has received from the department as per the institution’s certification and agreement [for] Immediate financial aid for students.

      The University of Nevada, Reno, received $ 7,122,267 from the Department of Education for HEERF II emergency grants for distribution to students.

    3. The total amount of Emergency Grants distributed to students under Section 18004 (a) (1) of HEERF II at the time of submission (ie, from the 30 day report and every 45 days thereafter).

      On May 1st, 2021, the University of Nevada, Reno, had distributed $ 7,122,267 directly to students under Section 18004 (a) (1) of the HEERF II funding.

    4. The estimated total number of students at the facility who are eligible for emergency student financial assistance under Section 18004 (a) (1) of HEERF II funding.

      The University of Nevada, Reno, had approximately 13,125 students eligible for emergency financial assistance under Section 18004 (a) (1).

    5. The total number of students who have received immediate financial aid for students in accordance with § 18004 (a) (1) of the HEERF II funding.

      By May 3, 2021, the University of Nevada, Reno, had distributed HEERF II funds to 8,677 students.

    6. The method (s) used by the institution to determine which students will receive emergency financial aid and how much they would receive under Section 18004 (a) (1) of HEERF II funding.

      The federal government commissioned the University of Nevada, Reno, to set the eligibility criteria for awarding emergency grants and encouraged the university to prioritize students in greatest need.

      The University of Nevada, Reno, has created an online application for students to apply for HEERF II funding. The students were informed through electronic messages and announcements on the university website. The amount of the award depends on the level of enrollment and the socio-economic circumstances of each student. The amounts for undergraduate and graduate students range from $ 100 to $ 1,200 and from $ 1,500 to $ 3,000 for students of the School of Medicine.

      Creates a dedicated page for HEERF II funding information and resources that includes an FAQ section and a link to the HEERF II application form. This page went online on March 8th.

      On March 8th and 9th, the Scholarship Office sent around 19,000 emails to students via the student information system. The message contained funding information, funding requirements, a link to the HEERF II application and a link to the HEERF II FAQ page.
